Consultation Rates
If you have had genetic testing through DNA Direct's clinical services, post-test consultation is included in your service fees. If you have had testing for deCODE T2 through their doctor or through DNA Direct, post-test consultation is free.
What Can I Expect During a Genetic Consultation?
Our board-certified genetic consultants are trained healthcare professionals who will:
- Discuss the genetic test(s) you are interested in learning about
- Complete a risk assessment by reviewing your personal and family medical history
- Provide important information about inheritance, testing management, prevention, resources and research
- Identify whether you are appropriate for genetic testing based on current medical guidelines
- Help answer your specific questions about the test(s)
- Help you consider what you would do based on genetic test results
- Offer clinical interpretation and support once testing is completed
Most medical questions are answered in about 30 minutes, but the counselor will speak with you as long as you need.

With DNA Direct, there is never an obligation to buy a test. So feel free to call or email us with questions about the testing process and what to expect, for free. We only charge for questions about your specific medical concerns, and we will advise you if you need to speak to one of our board-certified genetic consultants. You will never be charged without your consent.
How to Prepare for Your Consultation
- Learn more about the genetic test or condition for which you have been referred. Find your test of interest from the list on this page.
- Talk to your relatives to get any relevant family history information, such as the age of a diagnosis, tests that have been performed, and specific genetic test results.
- Collect any of your medical records that are related to the genetic test(s), such as specific diagnoses, the results of previous testing, or pathology reports from biopsies or surgeries.

If you know you need a genetic test and are ready to order without
any pre-test consulting, click here. (Note, a pre-test consultation is required for Breast & Ovarian Cancer Risk testing and Infertility/Pregnancy Loss testing.) To ensure you understand your results, DNA Direct includes 30 minutes of post-test consulting with a
board-certified genetic expert in the price of all medical tests. For paternity testing, there is an additional fee.
