How Testing Works

With DNA Direct, testing is simple and convenient. It's also completely private and can be anonymous if you wish.

Genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer is complex, so we provide you with the tools and support you need to make the most of your test results:

How It Works:

  1. Order Online. Place your order directly with us online OR have your doctor order your test. Order now | Physician Referral

  2. Pre-Test Consultation. This consultation is required before you can proceed with BRCA testing. During your phone consultation with a board-certified genetic counselor, important personal and family medical history is gathered and used to interpret your test results. After a consultation, you and your counselor may determine that testing is not right for you. In such cases, your credit card will only be charged for the non-refundable $150 consultation fee.

  3. Test Kit and Sample. Receive your test kit in the mail. (See kit) Take the kit to a patient service center near you for a simple, anonymous blood sample.

  4. Test Results Discussion. When your results are ready (3 to 4 weeks), your DNA Direct genetic expert will call to discuss your test results.

  5. Personalized Report. After your test results discussion, a Personalized Report – including information for your family and physician – will be available online through your secure account.
